Replacing legacy systems with a trusted, real-time platform built for Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS).
Underpins MHHS, a programme set to save the energy industry up to £4.5 billion by 2045.
Delivers a scalable, MHHS-compliant platform that automates settlement in real time and handles ten times the previous data volume.
Elexon sits at the centre of the energy sector, setting the market rules and running the data and change programmes that keep the electricity system working. As a non-profit, its role is to support the move to a more flexible and efficient energy system.
It was leading Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS), one of the biggest changes to the market since retail competition began. MHHS lets electricity be measured and settled every half hour, giving the industry more accurate data and consumers fairer outcomes.
The existing systems were never built for this. They could not process the volume of data or run at the speed MHHS demands. To get ready for go-live in 2025, Elexon needed a partner to help modernise its core settlement systems.
Our approach
We worked with Elexon and its delivery partners to design and build a new cloud-based Data Acquisition Hub on Databricks and Delta Lake. It replaced the legacy data engines with a scalable, resilient platform that ingests and validates data in real time.
We gave architectural assurance from design through to delivery, making sure the platform met its regulatory and operational requirements. We also strengthened the data security infrastructure, embedding governance and access controls to protect critical market data.
The result
The platform settles accurately and in real time, strengthening operational resilience while reducing financial risk. It gives Elexon firm ground to stand on as the market moves to half-hourly settlement.
By working alongside its team and assuring the build, we helped Elexon trust its systems and deliver lasting change for the energy market.
